Padel is typically played in doubles on an enclosed court roughly 25% smaller than the size of a tennis court.
Scoring is the same as normal tennis and the balls used are similar but with a little less pressure.
The main differences are that the court has walls and the balls can be played off them in a similar way as in the game of squash and that solid,
stringless bats are used. The height of the ball being served must be at or below the waist level.

Dieser Artikel beschreibt in der Hauptsache das in Spanien und Südamerika weit verbreitete Spiel Pádel,
er geht aber auch auf das ältere Paddle-Tennis und weitere Varianten ein.
Pádel wird im Gegensatz zu den anderen Spielen nur im Doppel gespielt.
Es gibt außer dem Pádel und Paddle-Tennis noch weitere Varianten in den USA, wie etwa die Ost- und Westküstenversion von Paddle-Tennis selbst,
Platform-Tennis genannt. Weiterhin gibt es One-Wall und Four-Wall-Paddleball sowie eine Beach-Variante.
Auch wenn der Einfluss von Tennis offensichtlich ist,
gibt es auch Einflüsse von Spielen, die ihre Wurzeln in weitaus älteren Spielen haben,
wie Jeu de Paume (Spiel mit der Handfläche), Fronton oder im Baskenland Basque Pelota.
